Kazuko Yamaguchi-Shinozaki from the University of Tokyo in Japan focused on the expression of a variety of genes during drought. She had carried out a global analysis of expression profiles of drought-inducible genes and analysed their function in Arabidopsis. Especially the DRE-binding proteins, DREB1/CBF and DREB2, seem to function as transcriptional activators in cold- and drought-responsive gene expression. She discussed her findings in more detail and also showed data from transgenic plants.
