Ray Yang is the Partner of Marathon Venture Partners, a China based Healthcare and Fintech focused early to growth stage fund. Before Marathon Venture Partners, Ray was a managing director at Northern Light Venture Capital, an early stage venture capital firm leading NLVC’s healthcare and fintech investments; he was an investment director at Orchid Asia Group and helped establish its China operations. Ray led a series of successful investments including China Distance Education (NYSE: DL), Ganso (a leading bakery chain), Autohome (NYSE: ATHM), Thundersoft (Chinext: 300496), and many of the leading fintech companies such as Sinolending; Qunxing Financial, Gevent Financial Service, Credible, Ejsino, and Shulaibao. Ray has ten years of government and multinational corporation experience before entering into the venture capital sector. Ray was a commodity trader at Louis Dreyfus Corporation, focusing on agriculture commodities. Prior to that, he was a vice commercial consul for the Consulate General of China (Houston, TX) and he worked at the Ministry of Commerce (Beijing) as a manager in the Economic & Commercial offices of the Chinese Embassies and Consulates.
Ray graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT), and has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Ray is a Guest Professor of SIFT and is a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Board. He is also a fellow of Aspen Institute.
